COUNSELLING PSYCHOTHERAPY IN Southampton & Hampshire

Welcome to Louise Champ-Hill Psychotherapy

Growth and lasting change can begin where truth and safety meet.

About Me

As a qualified psychodynamic counsellor, I offer psychodynamic therapy to adults, both in person and online. I’m registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and fully adhere to their ethical guidelines and code of practice in my work. If you’d like to know more about how I work, including privacy, confidentiality, and practicalities you can visit the Frequently Asked Questions page.

I offer a space that will meet you where you are, a place to slow down, talk openly, and begin to make sense of what you’re feeling, and understand yourself a little more deeply.

I’ve worked with people from many walks of life each bringing their own experiences, challenges, complexities and hopes.

Some come feeling lost or overwhelmed; others feel stuck in familiar patterns or are simply curious to understand themselves more fully. Is Therapy Right for me? My approach is steady, reflective, and grounded in respect for the pace and depth each person needs.

How I work

My work is grounded in the principles of a psychodynamic approach to therapy, which recognises that our early experiences and relationships can shape how we see ourselves and others. Therapy with me is a steady, reflective process, a place for honesty, curiosity, and real change.

Sometimes, patterns that once helped us cope can begin to feel restrictive or painful and therapy offers a place to understand them, rather than fight them. In our sessions, we pay gentle attention to what unfolds in the moment: your thoughts, feelings, and the patterns that appear in the space between us. This can bring new awareness to what’s been hidden, helping you see your story and yourself with greater clarity and self-trust.

Rather than giving advice or ready-made answers, I aim to create a relationship where you can feel deeply heard and understood. Through this, you will begin to find your own sense of clarity and confidence, gradually becoming more able to take charge of the parts of your life that have felt difficult to manage or overwhelming.

Therapy with me isn’t about doing it “right.” It’s about allowing yourself to be seen, heard, and understood in a way that brings new possibilities to light. You set the pace, and I’ll walk alongside you.

Working Together

What does this mean for the process of working together?

The first step is for you to reach out, either by phone or email. If we decide to meet after that contact, I will arrange a time for your first session.

This initial meeting gives us time to talk about what brings you, what you’re hoping for, and to get a felt sense of whether the space between us feels right for the work. If we both feel it’s a good fit, we will agree on a regular weekly time to meet.

Ongoing sessions are 50 minutes, once a week, on the same day and time. Meeting at a regular time each week gives the therapy a steady rhythm, which helps the work deepen naturally. Sessions are £65 each.

I also hold a small number of reduced-fee spaces for people who need them. These are offered based on financial circumstances and availability. Payment is made by bank transfer on the day of your session (or monthly in advance if preferred.) Sessions can take place in person in Southampton, Hampshire, or online for clients across the UK.

Types of Therapy

Short-term Therapy

Some people come for a focused piece of work, usually around 12–20 weeks. Short-term psychodynamic therapy can be helpful when you want to explore a particular issue, life event, or transition. It offers a contained period of support, reflection and understanding, while still allowing depth and honesty in the work.

Open-ended Therapy

Others choose to work in a more open-ended way, giving time for the process and the relationship between us to unfold more fully. This kind of work allows space for deeper insight, emotional growth, and longer-lasting change. It can be especially valuable if the patterns you’re struggling with feel longstanding, relational, or difficult to shift on the surface.

You don’t need to decide in advance which approach is right for you, we can explore this together as part of your initial consultation.
